Sightseeing in Tring

Apart from being in a location that is easily accessable to those tourists who wish to visit London our Tring bed and breakfast is located in an area of local natural beauty. Also we are very close to bot Woburn Safari park and Whipsnade Zoo, Within the town of tring there is also the wonderful Tring Ntural History museum and of course we are nearby to the splendid dunstable downs.

Areas of Interest

The Chiltern Hills lie 17 miles to the northeast of Tring and present a rare bit of unspoiled rural beauty within almost shouting distance of the hustling bustle of London. A large part of this geological area was designated “An Area of Outstanding Beauty” in 1955. Many Roman Britain-era excavations have been conducted in the area and it was home to the 3rd largest Roman city of its time, Verulamium, now the modern day St. Albans.

Four miles east of Tring is the Pitstone Green Museum that houses buildings that comprise a working circa 1830s farm. Run by volunteers, the museum depicts 19th century rural life featuring many exhibits related to farming, era trades and professions, country life plus two model railway exhibits, along with many late 19th ti early 20th century gas-powered engines, vintage wireless and photography exhibits along with a full size reconstruction of an Avro Lancaster bomber.

Ford End Watermill first recorded in 1616 but dating back being much older is the last remaining working watermill in Buckinghamshire retaining its original machinery. It was in commercial use up to 1963. Restored by volunteers, it is open daily for tours welcoming schools and other large parties.

Nearby Gaddesden Estates presents five centuries of history while always finding a way to survive and thrive in the modern world. Annual hone to outdoor theatre events, the estates also presents a historical depiction of a traditional farming and forestry estate and is a popular location choice for movie and television filming.

The Court Theatre is open almost every week of the year providing an extremely eclectic range of great entertainment. You will find cool nights of hot jazz leading to nights where visitors are treated to everything from a one-person shoe to full-blown musical productions replete with orchestra accompaniment. Productions include plays to panto with music wistfully wafting to awaiting ears for all tastes from classical to modern sounds.
